TNT May Mull Options Other Than JV with Japan Post

Dutch mail and logistics giant TNT NV has hinted at a possibility of seeking a business alliance in Japan with a party other than Japan Post.

TNT showed the stance in a statement issued in response to recent media reports that Japan Post is set to scrap its agreement with TNT to form a joint venture to offer transport services in Asia due to a discord over the envisaged firm’s business strategy.

While admitting that the two firms have not been able to set up the joint company, TNT said it “continues to explore opportunities for cooperation with Japan Post.” TNT “remains committed” to discussions with the Japanese government-affiliated corporation, it added.

Still, TNT said it will, as always, be “looking at alternative options in Japan to continue to build on the momentum we have managed to create in all other parts of Asia.”
