TNT plans B2C services in European markets

TNT plans to launch parcel services for consumers in several European markets later this year, according to a report in German newspaper Die Welt.

“We will announce our strategy for parcel services in the third quarter,” the newspaper quoted TNT CEO Peter Bakker as saying. The aim was to benefit from growing home delivery parcel volumes generated by e-commerce sales, and to use available capacity in its express and postal networks.

“We can imagine a launch in France, Great Britain and the Benelux states,” TNT board member Harry Koorstra said. But instead of offering a next-day delivery service, TNT might opt for a slower delivery, he said. Koorstra declined to say whether TNT might also enter the German B2C parcels market. TNT Express already cooperates with Hermes which is the leading private competitor to Deutsche Post in the B2C sector.

Bakker also reiterated that TNT was confident it would complete the sale of TNT Logistics in the second half of this year.
