DHL wins exclusive floral delivery contract

Global express delivery and logistics business DHL has signed an exclusive two-year, multi-million dollar agreement with GrowerFlowers, a leading online floral and gift supplier for businesses and consumers in the US.

DHL will provide overnight delivery for GrowerFlowers’ fresh grown bouquets direct from greenhouses on the east and west coasts to customers throughout the US.Online floral sales are expected to consistently reach 1.75 USD billion by 2008. During recent peak floral shipment periods, the Wholesale Florist and Floral Supplier Association cited healthy year-on-year floral sales growth, including a 25% increase in online flower purchases for the 2006 Valentine’s Day shipping period and a 16% increase this Mother’s Day over the prior year. “When we realized that the other major carriers did not have the capacity to serve our growing business during the biggest days of our gift-giving year, we had to find one partner that could fulfill all of our needs,” said “DHL stepped up to the challenge and solved that logistics problem, so we are now free to expand our business and move forward aggressively with our marketing plans.” “DHL gives us the ability to compete by providing timely delivery so our floral shipments are their freshest upon arrival, and customers feel an immediate connection to the sender,” said Mark Thiessen, president of GrowerFlowers.
