UK mail statistics

Inland volume within RM

Stamped traffic 25%
Meters traffic 25%
contract traffic 50% and of this 50% , 65% of it is Mailsort the rest is PPI (non sorted contact mail)

How does it split 1st/2nd class. For this analysis i will assume M3 is
treated as 2nd class (in volume terms it is the largest stream).

Stamps 50/50% with xmas mail as extra

Meters 40/60% in favour of 2nd

contract Mailsort 5/95% very little 1st class
PPI 35/65%

In total this puts 1st at about 32% of all inland traffic. 2nd at 68%

All this is based on revenues not volumes. i have no volume figures to hand
but you could assume that all 1st class is at full price of 28p (stamps pay
30 and some contracts will be a slow as 22 Mailsort with CBC discounts but
the average will be high) 2nd class includes M3 so the average is likely
to be around 18p. If someone can look up the current revenues from the
report and accounts you can get the volumes calculated

Hope this helps
