Dutch Vanderlande Industries gets USD 400 mln order from U.S. UPS
Dutch automated material handling systems producer Vanderlande Industries has received a large order worth over USD 400 mln (USD 311.6 mln euro) from U.S. package delivery company United Parcel Service (UPS), Vanderlande chief communication officer, Frans van Duren, said on September 1, 2006.
Vanderlande will deliver a fully automated package grading system to UPS Worldport airhub in Louisville, the USA, which will double the airhub’s capacity. The contract is running until the end of 2009.
Vanderlande has been delivering package grading systems to UPS since mid-1990s.
Vanderlande, which is the world’s second largest luggage handling systems producer, generated a net profit of 6.6 mln euro (USD 8.5 mln) in 2005, on sales of 330 mln euro (USD 423.6 mln). The company is currently working on projects worth between 100,000 euro (USD 128,300) and 500 mln euro (USD 641.8 mln). The order book amounted to 635 mln euro (USD 815 mln) at the end of 2005. Vanderlande is also responsible for delivering the luggage handling system for the fifth terminal of London’s Heathrow airport, an order worth 330 mln euro (USD 423.6 mln).
