Home Delivery of Rail Tickets from September 6 in Pakistan

Pakistan Railway Advisory and Consultancy Services (Pracs) has taken a revolutionary step initiating ‘home delivery’ of reservation tickets from September 6, 2006.

Initially, the home delivery facility is being provided in four cities of Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi/Islamabad and Faisalabad and it will be expanded to other cities later. Under the system devised, an intending railway traveller could have his seat/seats reserved on one telephone call for a train 24 hours prior to its departure. Once the seat is reserved, the ticket will be delivered to the passenger at his home address through Pracs courier. Pracs Managing Director, Mohammed Ashfaq Khattak, told APP on Monday that home delivery service will save the people living in distanced areas from visiting railway reservation offices, which consume much of time and then queuing up outside the reservation counter to get a ticket.

He said that for this ‘big service’ the Pracs would charge only Rs20 per ticket delivered within the municipal limit and Rs30 per ticket beyond the specified limit like Landhi and Hawks Bay in Karachi.

He said the intending passengers could make a telephone call for seat reservation at telephone numbers 9240550 and 6049623 (wireless) in Karachi, 5010457 and 9204081 in Lahore, 9273587 and 9273588 in Rawalpindi/Islamabad and 9200490 in Faisalabad.
