Walter Oblin: It is part of Austrian Post’s innovative strength that we adapt to the needs of the market

From Sunday, 6 October, Österreichische Post AG will be testing Sunday delivery for premium mail order customers. The pilot operation will start in four Viennese districts: 1010 Innere Stadt, 1020 Leopoldstadt, 1030 Landstraße and 1040 Wieden. If the test is positive, the whole of Vienna and subsequently the surrounding area and other provincial capitals are to follow in the first half of 2025.

“It is part of Austrian Post’s innovative strength that we adapt to the needs of the market. In 2015, we introduced Saturday delivery, which is now indispensable. Now we are taking the next step and testing Sunday delivery. This means that we are not only a first mover, but also bring together market requirements and innovation,” explains Walter Oblin, designated CEO, Member of the Management Board responsible for Mail & Finance, Österreichische Post AG.

“Austrians want to receive their online orders as quickly as possible and on their terms. For the first time, we are therefore testing parcel delivery on Sundays. With the start in October, we are well prepared for the high season around Black Friday and Christmas and our recipients will benefit from even higher delivery speeds,” says Peter Umundum, Member of the Management Board for Parcel & Logistics, Österreichische Post AG.

To ensure that recipients are not surprised on Sunday, they will receive a special notification in advance by e-mail or post app that their parcel will be delivered on Sunday. For the delivery itself, Austrian Post uses external transport companies, pays a Sunday surcharge and ensures that working hours are compensated.
