PostNord expands its terminal network in Sweden

PostNord is investing SEK 1.1 billion in a new high-tech and sustainable terminal for parcel and pallet handling in Vaggeryd, Jönköping County, Småland. The terminal will be able to handle 25,000 parcels per hour, thus having the highest capacity in Sweden.
PostNord is taking a historic step towards the logistics of the future with the construction of a new, state-of-the-art terminal in Vaggeryd Municipality, Södra Stigamo. The terminal, which is scheduled to be ready for production start in the first quarter of 2028, is PostNord’s largest facility project ever.
“We see a development where parcel volumes are growing and we need to expand our terminal network in Sweden. For a number of years, we have established new terminals in Växjö, Örebro, and Helsingborg, and most recently in Norrköping. We see an expansive e-commerce market and the establishment in Vaggeryd will create good conditions for us to continue to be the leading player in parcels and logistics in Sweden,” says Peter Gisel Ekdahl, CEO of PostNord Sweden.
The terminal will have a sorting capacity of 25,000 parcels per hour, and will be Sweden’s largest in terms of capacity. A high-tech sorting machine with over 1,000 sorting directions enables a productive and faster handling of goods flows from all over the country. The roof is being prepared for solar cells with any associated battery storage. The terminal will also be equipped with charging infrastructure to contribute to PostNord’s goal of having a fossil-free vehicle fleet by 2030. The building is designed to enable a higher degree of automation than any previous terminal.
“This is more than just a new terminal – it is an investment in smarter, more sustainable and future-proof logistics. We are not only building for today’s needs, but also for the future,” says Bengt Viktorsson, main project manager for the implementation of the civil engineering project
The terminal will be certified according to BREEAM Very Good or Miljöbyggnad Silver, which ensures that the building lives up to high requirements for energy performance, indoor environment and sustainability. The real estate company Infrahubs has been commissioned to build the terminal, and work is in full swing.
“Infrahubs is very proud to be working with PostNord to develop and build this modern and sustainable parcel terminal in a very good strategic location. The collaboration with PostNord confirms that Infrahubs has a leading position and an attractive offering for the logistics and distribution of the future,” says Andreas Ekberg, co-owner of Infrahubs.
