PostNord: This is not the transport of the future – it is the present

PostNord has become the first company in Sweden to put a Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 flatbed truck into commercial operation. The first vehicle – a fully electric truck for long-distance transport – will be put into service at the terminal in Veddesta in July. PostNord is thus taking a concrete step towards its goal of a completely fossil-free vehicle fleet by 2030.

“This is not the transport of the future – it is the present. We are investing in solutions that make a difference today. The electric long-distance truck in Veddesta is an important step in our journey towards net zero, and further proof that PostNord is at the forefront of the transformation of the transport sector,” says Liv Najjar, Head of Vehicles & Charging Infrastructure at PostNord.

Long-haul trucks – trucks with trailers and fixed boxes on the chassis – are used in logistics-intensive operations such as PostNord, where the vehicles are loaded and unloaded several times a day. They are demanding to electrify, as they often travel long distances with heavy loads. That is precisely why the eActros 600 marks a technological breakthrough.

The new model is developed from the ground up for electric operation, with an innovative e-axle, regenerative braking that returns energy to the battery, fast charging capacity and a range of up to 500 kilometers without intermediate charging – making it a practical alternative to diesel in long-distance traffic.

– The fact that Mercedes-Benz is rolling in full-scale long-distance traffic at PostNord is clear proof that our electric trucks are ready for reality. We are pleased to work with PostNord to drive the transition towards a more sustainable heavy transport sector, says Mattias Lindebäck, Key Account Manager for Veho import AB, which is a distributor of Mercedes-Benz trucks in Sweden.

The delivery of the first vehicle took place on July 1, as part of a planned investment of six eActros 600. Other deliveries are expected to take place gradually, but the timetable has not yet been determined.

PostNord has already taken major steps in electrifying its vehicle fleet and today has one of Sweden’s largest fleets of electric distribution vehicles. The investment in heavy electric trucks strengthens the company’s leading role in the transport sector’s climate transition.
