Empost to install AED 6 mn advanced IT communications system

Empost, the UAE’s national courier company is investing AED 6 million in installing an advanced IT communications system in it’s over 425-strong fleet of delivery vans and motorcycles as part of its ongoing initiatives to improve operational efficiency and customer services.
Under the communications upgrade plan, Empost courier vehicles will be equipped with the latest in wireless communication technologies such as the mobile data service, GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), the satellite-based navigation system, GPS (Global Positioning System), messaging and tracking systems.
The advanced system provided by Cisco Systems updates itself automatically – the information available needs to be entered once, thereafter it will be updated automatically from time to time.
The system will also provide a billing program that will make it easier to the customer to pay everything online.
Sultan Al Midfa, CEO, Empost said, ‘As the country’s leading provider of courier services, Empost is committed to offering the UAE’s growing corporate, business and resident communities innovative, world-class services adapted to their evolving needs. In keeping with its strategic plans, Empost strives to adopt international best practices in the industry to improve the quality of services in the country and extend the reach of its services to cover more international destinations.’ ‘The new IT communications system will make Empost’s services speedier, more reliable and efficient and will allow customers to track their parcels and documents with ease and precision, thus meeting the demands of a fast-paced global economy,’ Al Midfa added.
In order to help its employees adapt to the new technology, Empost will be conducting training programs either locally or outside the country, for over 700 of its staff. The training is aimed at upgrading the skills of Empost staff in line with the new system, and every delivery person will then operate as an Empost field agent. The internal training for Empost staff will be provided in cooperation with the Emirates Post Training Center.
Tahseen Al Malalha, Manager – Finance, Administration and IT, Empost, said, ‘This investment by Empost to upgrade its technology and communications system, once again reinforces our commitment to deliver maximum value to our customers. The enhanced system will not only ensure better service to the customer, it will also contribute to greater efficiency and productivity internally. Investment in such a system was essential considering the major expansion Empost is witnessing.’ Empost will also benefit from the ‘track and trace’ technology through GPS, whereby each field agent will have a handheld scanner that will work as a tracking system, showing in real time the status of the item dispatched.
Customers on the other hand can also track their parcels online after entering the password.
Empost has emerged as a major player in the UAE courier industry on the strength of its expert services and expanding network of outlets. Its wide range of services such as Tawseel, Ameel, Health Pack, Jawaz, EziPack, LiteDox, EmDirect, Mandoub and EziMail target specific customer groups while the company’s country-wide network of Empost Stores offers the entire portfolio of Empost courier services in addition to stamps, gifts and stationery.
