'Big Orange' adds Splash of Colour to its Range

Express delivery giant TNT may be famous for it orange trucks, but it will be adding to its colour palette in 2007 thanks to deal worth in excess of GBP 1million a year with one of Britain’s biggest colourant suppliers to the plastics industries.

Britain’s leading business-to-business express deliverer won the deal with ColorMatrix to transport colourants from the company’s headquarters in Knowsley, Merseyside, to firms across the UK and Europe. The colours are used to tint transparent materials including bottles for big brand drinks manufacturers such as Coca-Cola and Robinsons.

From Knowsley, TNT transports the goods to its newly opened GBP 5.6 million gateway depot at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, which handles domestic parcels for the North-West of England as well as international consignments to and from mainland Europe and further afield.

The 56-bay depot on the 4.13-acre depot is projected to handle almost three million domestic collections and deliveries in 200, while the international side expects approximately half a million a year.
ColorMatrix will now be able to take advantage of the depot’s leading edge technology, including a ‘dolly train’ system for the quickest loading and unloading of TNT aircraft.

Eddie Calland, TNT Business Development Manager, said: “We’re delighted to take on this contract with such a prestigious industry player like ColorMatrix.

“It’s gratifying to know that our implementation plan and overall logistics solution impressed them, and the opening of the new depot at Liverpool John Lennon Airport certainly gave us the edge over our competitors in providing a truly bespoke service.

“Consignments will be delivered through both our national and international air and road networks, flying from Liverpool to TNT’s airhub in Liege, Belgium and via our European Roadhub in Northampton through to Arnhem in the Netherlands.

Nicola Jones, Senior Logistics Team Leader at ColorMatrix, said: “We hope that we can establish a long time relationship with TNT throughout our group. As we are the market leader within this industry, we expect a high quality standard of service from our freight forwarders which will be monitored through key performance indicators on a weekly basis.”

Such is the success of the agreement in the UK that negotiations for TNT Express to provide a global service for ColorMatrix from its Marketing & Technical Centre in Eindhoven in The Netherlands are now at an advanced stage.
