The logistics industry must focus on security
Pan Nordic Logistics (PNL) is currently focusing on security and is preparing to set up a special group to investigate thefts and other security incidents.
Security issues must be given greater priority within the logistics industry, says Bengt-Eric Johansson, the new security manager at PNL.
PNL is currently putting together a security group and encouraging the logistics industry as a whole to focus more on security.
It will soon be Christmas, which is our busiest time of year for parcels. It is particularly important to be able to guarantee that presents will actually arrive, says Bengt-Eric Johansson.
PNL is a leading player on the Nordic market when it comes to parcels and pallets thanks to its strong network and committed partners. By focusing on security, the company wants to encourage the rest of the logistics industry to take a greater interest in the issue.
PNLs new security manager Bengt-Eric Johansson says that security should be a hot topic within the industry.
The logistics industry has been noticeably reticent on the issue of security for goods. We in the industry should act as one to push this issue further up the agenda, says Bengt-Eric.
PNL regards the new group as part of a long-term quality improvement programme.
It is important to both ourselves and our customers to be able to send goods safely and securely, continues Bengt-Eric.
The new security group at PNL will investigate thefts from trucks and warehouses. The group includes three people who normally deal with complaints, but will now also follow up on missing items and take part in investigations.
It is becoming increasingly common for thefts to remain unsolved because the investigations conducted are inadequate, says Bengt-Eric.
Our group will gather all available information about thefts and ensure that this is analysed thoroughly then we will be able to assess how best to improve the situation.
He already has some ideas on how to further improve parcel security. The most important element is ensuring that all the companys employees have the same approach to security.
Loyalty and awareness among employees is crucial. A company lacking these qualities will find it difficult to achieve the level of security required to make customers believe that its parcel delivery service is reliable.
PNL hopes that the initiative will encourage the entire logistics industry to discuss security issues in more depth.
It is important that we in the industry discuss security issues, so that our customers know how much we care about this area, says Bengt-Eric.
