MRS Distribution joins PalletFORCE

The West Lothian depot of transport company MRS Distribution Ltd has joined PalletFORCE, one of the country’s fastest growing palletised distribution networks, in the long-term interests of the company and its customers.

This is the first time that MRS has been part of a network, a decision driven by business development needs. “Sustainable business from Scotland is hard to find,” explains Commercial Director Ian Wilson, “and we needed a route to get our customers’ smaller consignments into England. Joining a network was the obvious answer.”

In addition, Wilson hopes to make better use of the extensive facilities at MRS’ Bathgate site. The company has two warehouses totalling 180,000 sq ft total and “whilst we have considerable stocking potential, we were aware that it could also be used as a distribution centre for goods being delivered locally.”

PalletFORCE proved the ideal choice after MRS met the Network’s Chief Executive Mick Scarlett and Network Development Manager Bob Delaney. “I was impressed with their outlook and honesty,” confirms Ian Wilson. “PalletFORCE concentrates on service rather than volume, and that gels with my own philosophy.”

He adds that strategically, their goals seemed to match as the available distribution area was ideal for MRS. “We have been recruited as a Shareholder Member Depot for the EH and FK postcodes, an area that we’re slap bang in the middle of, so on a practical day-to-day basis that works out great.”

MRS Distribution was founded in 1975 and became a limited company in 1983. The company has 350 employees based at 13 locations across the UK.

Palletised distribution has been a major growth area in road haulage over the last decade, offering a cost-effective solution to the quick delivery of small palletised consignments.

PalletFORCE is one of the leading palletised distribution networks in the UK and mainland Europe. With over 90 strategically-located depots around the country and a 210,000 sq. ft. central hub in Lichfield Staffordshire, the PalletFORCE network offers significant efficiency savings. Each member depot delivers goods originating from its operational area to the central hub. They then collect goods for delivery to their home area for the return load – a streamlined process which offers a more competitive, cost effective service for both members and customers, whilst substantially reducing environmental impact.
