Technical Supremacy sets ByBoxes apart

ByBox has launched a new generation of electronic postal lockers that are not only available in a variety of sizes and configurations to meet every requirement; but also packed with technical innovation to make them extremely flexible, user-friendly and secure.

The result is a reliable, robust and readily accessible system that is proven to provide postal operators and their customers with new levels of service, and swift delivery and collection facilities that meet the changing needs of the postal market.

Equally suitable for internal and external use, each locker bank is flexible and can be easily changed by adding or removing a column of locker doors. Built with tough, environmentally resistant material and coated in vandalism resistant paint, they operate over a large temperature range and at up to 93 pct humidity. To protect customers from the elements, external locker banks can be fitted with a weatherproof canopy.

Lockers are available in several standard dimensions that handle everything from large parcels to letters, and sizes can be customised if required. They can also be supplied in a variety of colours and branded to aid customer identification.

A number of security features are factored into the locker bank design. They include sensors that detect any attempted break-ins, and software that detects tampering and sounds an alarm after several aborted attempts.

At the same time, user security data may be monitored in a number of different ways, using signature capture, web camera and biometrics techniques such as fingerprint recognition.

In addition, both operators and customers require both a card and PIN combination to access sensitive locker functions, whilst lockers in a closed area can be installed with networked security door systems that communicate with the unit’s central console and only allow customer access if the customer has mail or a parcel waiting for them.

Another feature provides an uninterrupted power supply for periods between 24 hours and three weeks if there is an external power failure.

ByBox postal locker banks really stand apart when it comes to operational functionality and particularly the customer interface. This is possible because the units’ central control consoles run a highly reliable Linux operating system on a PC-based hardware architecture, which negates reliance on a hard disk and enables the simple connection of new peripherals that quickly extend the capabilities and flexibility of the services offered.

The 36cm customer touch-screen interface is simple to operate and has been crafted to provide multi-lingual support in 15 languages. It also offers a fullframe video capability for advertising or assistance with audio/visual material.

On a practical level, the unit offers several payment options and can be customized to the customer’s requirement i.e. payment by coin in single or multi currency; credit/debit card; magnetic or microchip card (existing payment method); and by mobile phone (using Near Field Communication).

Locker bank consoles also incorporate a barcode reader, which sits behind a protective layer of plexi-glass and is adapted to meet the relevant format used in postal applications, and a scanner that can be integrated with a WiFi or Bluetooth connection. There is also a printer, which can print self-adhesive postage labels for shipping applications, and can also be used to edit receipts.

Importantly, and for added delivery and collection flexibility and control, ByBox locker banks can be connected via ADSL or GPRS to provide operators with a real time track and trace facility that is fully accessible via the Internet. The service can also be configured to generate SMS or email messages to customers that contain the access code they need to collect their mail from a locker at a time they choose.

For postal operators looking for more efficient delivery methods and wishing to improve their delivery accuracy, the ByBox electronic postal locker system provides a timely and effective solution.
