THE UK POST OFFICE BUYS IRISH PARCEL LOGISTICS COMPANY
The Post Office announced today it had bought the Williames group of companies, one of the leading suppliers of parcel and logistics services in Ireland.
The acquisition further demonstrates The Post Office’s determination to be one of Europe’s top distribution companies.
Rico Back, The Post Office’s Managing Director European Parcels, said: “We are delighted to have concluded this deal as the Williames group has a reputation for high-quality, customer-focused service.
“The group will dovetail extremely well with our existing operations and further enhance the overall scope of our operations across Europe.”
Mr Stephen Fitzgerald, Managing Director of the Williames group, will continue to head the Irish operation.
He said: “The acquisition is good news for the Williames group, its customers and employees as it will provide a boost for development plans.” The Williames group offers a range of services in the integrated Irish
market, including parcels and logistics, airfreight and distribution services. Dublin and Shannon are the principal bases for the group.
The 100% acquisition of the group cost around £10million and was conducted by The Post Office subsidiary, German Parcel, which was acquired by The Post Office earlier this year.
In line with normal practice for similar deals, the acquisition is subject to clearance under the Mergers, Takeovers and Monopolies (Control) Act in Ireland.
