Kintetsu forms alliance with Sagawa Express

Kintetsu World Express, one of Japan’s largest forwarders, has formed a cooperative relationship with Sagawa Express Co., a domestic courier service in Japan.

The alliance effectively extends Kintetsu’s services throughout Sagawa’s 330 domestic business locations in Japan.

The alliance took its first concrete steps this month when Kintetsu turned over to Sagawa customs-cleared international shipments for delivery to domestic destinations in Japan.

The companies also are working to harmonize their shipment information systems. In addition, they are planning joint use of business locations in Sendai, Ota-City of Gunma Prefecture, northern Nagano, Fukuoka and Chitose airport.

The intended result is that both companies will expand their business in Japan and overseas by utilizing the others’ expertise in areas where one is stronger.

“In this day and age, strategic alliances are a must. I believe that Sagawa Express is our best alliance partner in Japan,” said Toshio Kumokawa, president of Kintetsu.
