TNT Express is upgrading its IT services for customers in various countries around the world with improved tracking and communications technology.
In France, the express operator has improved real-time shipment tracking with the introduction of new handheld terminals for some 3,200 couriers and installed Wi-Fi technology at 100 sites. The new Symbol MC9000-G handhelds automatically update shipment status information into the company’s systems every 10 minutes. They will improve the quality of information for customers who can call up status via various interfaces, including customer service, the company website and via pro-active information methods such as SMS. TNT Express France handles about 350,000 shipments a day.
In Italy, TNT Express has introduced ‘POD Imaging’, a new service enabling the proof-of-delivery signature to be digitalised and transmitted in real-time into the company’s tracking system thanks to an innovative software programme developed exclusively for the company.
In South America, TNT has introduced its Mobile Worker handheld terminals in Argentina as part of the worldwide rollout of 14,000 units since 2006. The in-cab units enable delivery drivers to send and receive delivery information in real-time through one smart scanner. Following successful earlier tests in Chile, the Mobile Worker units are also due to be introduced in other regional markets, including Brazil, Canada and the USA.
