eBay & DHL ally in Asia-Pacific region

The alliance is expected to increase competition between eBay and its archrival Taobao.com. DHL announced its cooperation with eBay Inc. to provide special delivery service for eBay’s sellers in the Asia-Pacific region.

DHL said that from December 3 to the end of this year, eBay’s sellers in China could enjoy a 35% discount at most, once they registered eBay for DHL service. In addition, top sellers on eBay will enjoy an extra 10% discount. DHL will save at least 50% of the time for goods delivery, compared with traditional postal service.

Such a powerful alliance will intensify the competition between eBay and Taobao.com, China’s largest online consumer-to-consumer (C2C) marketplace.

The Chinese market is always a chief focus of eBay. The company has solved problems in distribution and payment before.

That indicates much stiffer competition between eBay and its archrival Taobao.com in China, said Zheng Zhuanghong, an expert of logistics informatization with the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing.
