An Post is looking to launch its own-branded mobile phone service in the summer of 2009.

An Post will buy capacity and services on the cellco’s network to provide an An Post-branded product through its own retail network.

SiliconRepublic.com reports that in the initial phase the postal operator will focus on the pre-paid mobile market. Commenting on the tie-up, Donal Connell, chief executive of An Post, said the MVNO partnership with Vodafone marked another chapter in the evolution of the company and its new generation of products and services currently in development. ‘1.7million customers visit their local Post Office every week, and from Summer 2009 customers can avail of handy, value-for-money, mobile phone services.’
