Correos rolls out comprehensive delivery management system

The new service provides customers with complete, real-time information on the status of their deliveries.

It provides customers with complete, real-time information on the status of their deliveries.

CORREOS has successfully completed the rollout of the Comprehensive Post Management System (Sistema de Gestión Integral de Envíos, SGIE) at all its centres Responsible for the management of registered deliveries, from processing to distribution to the end user, SGIE is currently used by over 10,000 units and manages around 2 million deliveries a day. This information system is an improvement on the previous system, making it easier to trace deliveries, and it includes other technological tools, providing service to approximately 12,0000 users.
SGIE is responsible for the operational management of registered deliveries: the classification, processing, receipt and admission of postal items at CORREOS units, preparation for their delivery to the addressee and management of all the information related to each of the deliveries on its journey through the postal system. In addition, SGIE offers full monitoring and control of postal items through enquiries, it generates activity, quality and support reports, and exchanges information with other CORREOS systems, among other functions.
This new system unifies an operation which, until now, was performed using four different systems: the System for the Admission, Distribution and Delivery of Registered Post (SERADE), the System for the Management of Dispatches (SGD), the Information System for Special Service Items (SIOUX) and the Information System for Electoral Processes (SICOPE). SGIE now covers this entire operation which until now was fragmented and was costly and complex to maintain.
SGIE makes work easier for the more than 12,000 users who use this application, as it simplifies the procedures. It is an intuitive, easy-to-use system that processes the information very quickly, giving CORREOS greater control over the stages of the life cycle of each delivery, thus enabling the postal operator to provide customers with more complete information, in near real-time, on the status of their deliveries.
The streamlining of the processing and management processes for deliveries also means savings in time, cost and resources.
Notification via SMS
The new SGIE system includes improvements in internal management and new functionalities providing services to customers, such as notification via SMS of events such as the delivery of the item to the addressee or that a parcel is available for collection from the CORREOS office.
The Integra Plan
Developed using cutting-edge technology, a J2EE environment and Oracle as the database management system, SGIE is part of the INTEGRA Plan, the ambitious project which brings together all the initiatives for the modernisation of infrastructures and management systems that CORREOS has been developing in order to offer a better quality and more efficient postal service. The system’s architecture is flexible, scalable, widely available and simple to administer and maintain.
