Distribution industry salaries analysed

Senior regional managers within major distribution firms are paid an average basic salary of £61,975, with some earning up to 13% more and others earning 14% less.

The latest CELRE Distribution Staff Salary Survey of 43 firms – three-quarters of whom have a turnover of £250m-plus and employ 77,038 staff – shows strong regional variances for a variety of job roles. It will come as no surprise that managers in counties around the edge of the industry’s Midlands ‘golden triangle’ earn the most, nor that the most remote parts of the country can generate both high and low variances depending on the job function.

The survey, compiled during the summer, shows the minimum pay settlement at 1.5%, the maximum at 8% and the average at 3.5%.

Among those contributing to the survey were Asda, Boots, Ceva, DHL, John Lewis, NYK, Royal Mail, Sainsbury’s, TDG and Wincanton.

The report costs £500. To buy it and find out how to participate in the 2009 survey, call 020 8652 4653, quoting reference LOG06, or go to the CELRE website.
