Posta to deliver letters at door posts
Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC) has introduced a system whereby letters and parcels are now delivered at addressees’ residences. Known as ‘physical addressing and postal system,’ the new method is expected to ease the exercise of handling mails.
Addressing a press conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the Minister for Communication, Science and Technology, Prof Peter Msolla, said a pilot project was being implemented in Arusha municipality, before the whole country adapts the system.
The system, he said, is aimed at improving key areas and services such as immigration, business transactions, National ID project and tourism.
Prof Msolla was briefing the reporters on achievements of his ministry for the past three years. He said a rural communication project was being carried out to bring communication services closer upcountry.
The Minister said four districts, namely Ludewa, Shinyanga Rural, Hai and Singida, are benefiting from the rural multi-purpose community Telecentres project.
Prof Msolla said that his ministry in collaboration with the Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL), has already abolished the old telephone technology , replacing it with mobile phones.
“My ministry is going on with the process of changing the broadcasting technology from the old analogue one to the new digital projecting that by the year 2015, only digital broadcasting technology will be used in Tanzania,” he said.
He further added that the government is looking for USD 170m to build national Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Backbone infrastructure, that will join all districts in the country.
