Deutsche Telekom AG’s corporate customer division T-Systems has joined the DHL Innovation Initiative of Deutsche Post World Net, adding the fifth major global company to a unique research network aimed at designing innovative technical solutions.

The contract between T-Systems and DHL has been signed for a minimum of three years, in which the two companies will use their expertise to raise efficiency in supply chains via technologies such as telematics and mobile services. To that end, the companies will set up concepts, conduct tests and demonstrations as well as launch pilots in cooperation with other partners.

T-Systems, Europe’s leading information and communications technology (ICT) provider for the transportation and logistics market, intends to use the initiative to share Deutsche Telekom’s technological expertise in order to develop innovative services for Deutsche Post World Net’s logistic and postal customers. “T-Systems plans to bring its extensive know how regarding innovations and new technologies into the partnership,” noticed T-Systems CEO, Reinhard Clemens. “By doing that, we will support Deutsche Post’s efforts to constantly optimize their services.”

Exploring mobile technologies

One key focus of the partnership will be on mobile services. As part of the project, the two companies will explore how mobile technology can be used to improve processes at Deutsche Post World Net or contribute to the convenience and availability of the Group’s products and services. The companies also expect to discover new information and communication trends and get a chance to closely examine their impact in the field of logistic or postal services.

The DHL Innovation Center, which bundles the research and development activities of Deutsche Post World Net counts on strong partnerships to develop innovative solutions for the logistics and other industries. Partners that agree to offer their cutting-edge technology, in exchange can gain insights into the business processes and requirements of the logistics industry. Based on this information, the partners are able to tailor their solutions even better to the needs of their customers.

The DHL Innovation Center also offers the possibility to test products and solutions in its laboratory and conduct pilots together with the Group’s business units. Among the global partners are now T-Systems, SAP, Intel, Motorola and IBM, Among the scientific research partners are the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and the Massachussetts Institute of Technology.
