La Poste places £5m mail order

French national postal organisation La Poste, has awarded Bell & Howell
the contract to supply its mail inserting equipment. La Poste’s order
for 42 systems represents the largest single order for inserters that
the US information services company received in 2000 and is worth
around $5m.

La Poste has invested in the entire range of Bell & Howell inserting
technology to replace inserting equipment in all 21 of France Poste’s
financial service centres throughout France and overseas.

The tender involved an indepth benchmarking process, with equipment
from all main industry suppliers being rigorously tested against La
Poste’s preset parameters.

The technology was subjected to trials at Bell & Howell’s factory in
Germany and its European Technology Centre in London, along with real-
time demonstrations at customer sites.

Deliveries of the inserters commenced in November and will continue
until the end of 2001.

* Bell & Howell has recently completed the sale of its imaging division
to Kodak. The transaction excluded the scanner equipment and closed at
$135m. The company will retain its scanner business, with Kodak
providing service and supplies.

James Roemer, Bell & Howell chairman, president and chief executive
officer, says: “The completion of the sale of our imaging business to
Kodak represents an important step in the streamlining of our company.
We are in the process of launching the new ProQuest company, consisting
of our Information & Learning and Publishing Services businesses.

“We are excited and optimistic about our future. For our scanner
business customers, it will be business as usual.

“During the transition period, current policies, processes and
procedures are being maintained. Customers should continue to use their
existing contacts at either Kodak or Bell & Howell for sales, service,
and support.”
