Mail staff strike in contracts row

Postal workers in London will stage a strike on 7 March in a row over part-time contracts.

Postal workers in London will stage a strike on 7 March in a row over part-time contracts.

The Communication Workers Union accused the Royal Mail of forcing the contracts on staff at the Upper Edmonton delivery office in a “cost-cutting” move it warned would affect mail services in the north of the capital.

CWU official Mark Dolan said: “As a result of Royal Mail’s actions, members have reluctantly been forced to take action to defend the service the public and to protect full-time, meaningful work.” Dozens of postal workers will take action from 5.30am on 7 March for 24 hours.
