Deutsche Post to appoint Rosen

Deutsche Post is poised to appoint Lawrence Rosen, CFO at Fresenius Medical Care (FMC), as its new finance chief, the Financial Times Deutschland newspaper has reported.

Deutsche Post has named Lawrence Rosen as its new chief financial officer, replacing John Allan, who will step down at the end of June.

Rosen now heads up finances at dialysis specialist Fresenius Medical Care. He joined FMC in 2003, coming from French drugs company Aventis.

Deutsche Post will decide “in the near future” when Rosen will take on his new role, a spokeswoman told Reuters.

Shares of Deutsche Post were up 7.9% as the announcement was made on 10 March.
The move comes one day before the postal services company is expected to unveil its new “Strategy 2015”. It has so far kept the market guessing what its new strategic plan would be, but analysts have said they did not expect a revolution.

Allan said in January he would step down, and Deutsche Post said the move was “of his own volition”.

He had joined Deutsche Post’s management board in 2006, when the company bought UK contract logistics firm Exel which he had led, and was named chief financial officer in 2007.

He pledged to improve the performance of the company’s US business and two months ago led a push to exit the loss-making DHL express business in the United States.

Deutsche Post is cutting a total 14,900 jobs in the United States to shrink its exposure to the market there and curb about $1bn of annual losses from its DHL express business.
