DHL has been appointed as the official express and logistics partner for Lakme India Fashion Week 2009 in Mumbai.

The Lakme Fashion Week begins on 27 March and continues to 31 March. Following the successful year of partnership with IMG Fashion across ten countries spanning four continents, DHL will associate with IMG in India for the fifth year.

DHL will use these events to strengthen its business penetration with the fashion, apparel and retail industries. India is amongst the top five countries that accounts for almost 23% of the global apparel market and DHL Express along with Blue Dart in India has an estimated 48% shipment market share in the apparel and textile industry.

“India is a key manufacturing and distribution base for the fashion industry. Competition requires the need to respond rapidly to market demands, and DHL enables customers to get the newest trends and orders to the market quickly,” said Craig Grossgart, country manager, DHL Express India. “We are immensely excited to be part of the Lakme India Fashion Week. With DHL’s extensive global presence and Blue Dart’s domestic reach, we can ensure that the creations of international designers reach suppliers and shows right on time.”

DHL’s services cover the entire logistics value chain of the fashion industry from material purchasing, quick movement of samples and quality control of production to the direct delivery of finished products to boutiques. Tailor-made express solutions address the latest trends in the fashion world and meet the specific needs of individual customers. These include value-added services such as the provision of track and trace capability to enhance shipment visibility, express services for efficient distribution of products from factory to store at competitive cost levels, as well as global trade services to provide specialist brokerage assistance.
