DHL has announced that senior financier Taketo Yamakawa will become the new head of DHL Express Japan, effective on 1 April.

Yamakawa will succeed the current president and representative director of DHL’s Japan unit, Günter Zorn, who has decided to retire from DHL and pursue other career opportunities, DHL said.

Yamakawa will also become a member of DHL’s Asia-Pacific Management Board. He will be responsible for managing business operations and supervising strategies to enhance DHL’s market leadership through greater efficiencies and service quality.

Yamakawa was the founding member and chief executive officer of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts Japan, a U.S.-based investment firm. He also served as an independent advisor to the Energy Resources Development Co. of Japan.

“The opportunity to take a leading brand such as DHL forward is exciting for me. Companies need to adopt an innovative approach to stay ahead of its competition and I look forward to leading DHL as the preferred full-service express and logistics provider in Japan,” said Yamakawa.
