DHL announces strategy for Life Sciences and Healthcare sector

Following the recent launch of Deutsche Post DHL’s Strategy 2015, DHL announced an enhanced strategy for providing superior levels of service and quality to customers in the Life Sciences and Healthcare sector. Following the recent launch of Deutsche Post DHL's Strategy 2015, DHL announced an enhanced strategy for providing superior levels of service and quality to customers in the Life Sciences and Healthcare sector.

The announcement was made at the company's 9th Annual Life Sciences and Healthcare Global Conference in Miami, USA, where it is hosting many of the world's leading pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies.

"Strategy 2015 aims to broaden DHL's leadership in the logistics sector by strengthening its cross-divisional collaboration in order to provide simplified and sustainable customer solutions, and identifies the growing Life Sciences and Healthcare industry as a key focus sector," said Hermann Ude, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding and Freight, and DHL's board member sponsor of the sector.

"Because of the unique safety and regulatory requirements faced by the Life Sciences and Healthcare industry, its transportation and logistics needs require particularly rigorous levels of quality and competence in product handling. At the same time, the industry is increasingly turning to strategic partners for innovative solutions in order to support supply chain operations", he concluded.

The Life Science strategy includes: Competence Centres around the world with more focus on emerging markets to provide improved quality, compliance and visibility when moving products from manufacturer to end customer; GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and GDP (Good Distribution Practice) certified Regional Hubs – in Panama, Istanbul, Dubai, and Singapore – for warehousing and regional distribution of pharmaceutical products; a very active six sigma improvement process under the name 'First Choice'; a global network of warehouse and transportation solutions for Clinical Trials; pan-European less-than-truckload temperature-controlled (LTL) Cold Chain road freight capabilities.

Building on its experience, network and infrastructure, the most recent enhancements to DHL's Life Sciences and Healthcare strategy announced include three key components:

· Engagement of customers – DHL hosts Annual Life Sciences and Healthcare global conferences that feature more than 30 workshops where customers, DHL executives and Life Sciences and Healthcare experts identify issues and solutions. From these workshops, DHL creates solutions specially tailored to meet its customers' needs. More than 225 Life Sciences and Healthcare global customers are attending this year's conference, which is a unique opportunity to share best practices as well as dialogue and network with industry colleagues.

· Develop a fact base – By conducting studies, talking to customers and exploring a customer's entire supply chain, DHL can identify key performance indicators and pain points in order to create strategies and solutions specially tailored to satisfy customer needs.

· Leveraging DHL's expert community – Strengthening its cross-divisional collaboration empowers DHL to develop global best practices and processes, harness best-in-class supply chain and logistics expertise throughout the DHL network and build industry competencies to better understand and meet customer needs.

"The enhanced strategy announced today reinforces DHL's leadership position in Life Sciences and Healthcare logistics," said Angelos Orfanos, president of Life Sciences and Healthcare of DHL Global Customer Solutions. "That strategy, combined with DHL's global footprint and capabilities, high degree of competence, dedicated teams and infrastructure and customised industry processes, strongly positions DHL to continue to grow with the sector and drive its globalisation with our customers."
