UPS plans to trim the carbon emissions of its airline by another 20% by 2020 for a total reduction of 42% since 1990.

The Atlanta-based package shipper discussed its carbon reduction goal in the UPS Sustainability Report released at http://www.responsibility.ups.com/sustainability.

UPS claims its airline already is tops in fuel efficiency in the package delivery sector with an efficiency factor of 1.42 CO2 pounds per Available Ton Mile. Its jets are the source of 53% of its total carbon output, UPS said.

To meet the carbon-cut goal, it will invest in more fuel-efficient aircraft types and engines; adopt fuel-saving operational initiatives and introduce the use of biofuels.
