Unipost Buys Georoute Software

GIRO Inc. has announced that Unipost S.A. has acquired its GeoRoute™ software solution to help improve mail delivery operations by creating more efficient routes and standardised delivery operations. Unipost plans to maximize the software’s optimization capabilities to increase productivity, decrease transit times, and reduce variability of service between its mail delivery routes.

“Unipost delivers over three million mail items daily with a workforce of 2,500 employees,” said Oscar Alvarez, director of operations at Unipost. “We cover the entire population in Spain using 70 percent of our own resources and 30 percent third-party resources” stated Alvarez.

GeoRoute’s proven clustering algorithms generate balanced routes that use the most efficient sequence for urban and rural deliveries, and the software’s sequencing algorithms can handle multiple travel modes including walking, bicycle, and vehicle.

Unipost will use these algorithms, in addition to GeoRoute’s Automatic Park-and-Loop algorithm, to generate balanced routes with the most efficient sequence possible. Unipost will also be able to use these advanced technologies to quickly create accurate route simulations as well as reallocate resources and redirect mail delivery routes to new or existing branches as required.
