FedEx and UPS receive Pentagon contract

The Pentagon has announced that a consortium of airline and cargo companies, including FedEx, has been awarded a $1.58bn contract from US Transportation Command for international airlift services. Members of Federal Express Charter Programs Team Arrangement, awarded the contract on 17 September, include: Air Transport International, Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Continental Airlines , FedEx, Omni Air International and Polar Air Cargo Worldwide.

An additional $331.7m was awarded to a second consortium containing UPS, also for airlift services.

Work will be carried out across the world and will be completed by September 2010.
