Labour to debate future of mail at Conference

The future of Royal Mail in the UK is to be debated at the Labour Party conference after a motion from the Communication Workers Union (CWU) was accepted, reports the BBC. The article continues:

The union has been staging strikes across the country in a bitter row over jobs, pay and services.

More than 100,000 postal workers are being balloted on a national strike, with the result due early next month.

Plans to part privatise Royal Mail were put on hold after a backlash from more than 140 Labour MPs.

The emergency debate could be held on 28 September following a speech to the Brighton conference by business secretary Lord Mandelson.
