Consignia acquires Danish courier company
Consignia has expanded its presence in the Danish distribution market by acquiring a majority share holding in Stafetten, an express courier company providing specialised delivery services to Danish business customers, it was announced today.
The deal complements Consignia’s existing presence in the Danish market where it owns Pakke-Trans, a next-day and 48-hour parcel delivery company which it bought just over a year ago.
The deal to acquire a majority stake in Stafetten, represents an initial investment by Consignia of almost £2 million.
Stafetten was founded in 1991 and it employs around 100 people handling courier services worth around £5million in annual sales. Its head office is in Kolding, with branches in Copenhagen, Åalborg and Arhus.
Allan Laursen, Managing Director of Pakke-Trans, said: “This is an excellent deal for both Pakke-Trans and Stafetten. There is a perfect fit between the two companies as Stafetten’s strong reputation for providing niche, bespoke courier services will complement Pakke-Trans’s determination to provide its customers with an expanded range of parcel delivery services.”
Under the deal, Mr Laursen becomes Chairman of Stafetten’s board. Steen Møller, who will continue to be manager of Stafetten, said: “I am delighted this deal is going through. It provides significant opportunities for growth.”
Jerry Cope, Consignia’s Group Managing Director Strategy and Business Development, said: “The deal is a further demonstration of Consignia’s growth in the European distributon market, where we already operate Europe’s only integrated, business-to-business parcels network.”
