Interim Licence

The initiation of a new licensing scheme in the UK saw concerns about the timescale before a licence would be issued to anyone other than the UK post office Consignia. At the time Chris Webb of Postcomm, the licence regulator, said: We will be consulting on the possible avenues for introducing competition later this year.
Now it appears Postcomm has invited opertors to apply for interim licences to provide services in competition to those offered by Consignia. Applications for a licence, which costs £1000 will be subject to a 28 day consultation period. Postcomm chairman, Graham Corbett, said the licences would enable potential operators to get into the UK postal market on a small scale.
