Swiss Post Int. acquires mail companies
Swiss Post is strengthening its presence in Spain by taking over two long term sales partners in Madrid. In good time for the full deregulation of the Spanish postal market in the next year, Swiss Post is expanding its international network and preparing for the competition.
Swiss Post International is taking over the two companies, ABC Mail and Mail Partners Spain (MPS), in which Dutch ABC Mail Group holds the majority, with retrospective effect from 1 January 2010. The two companies based in Madrid have been sales partners of Swiss Post International since 2003 and are primarily active in the cross-border letter business. Confidentiality has been retained by the partners regarding the purchase price of the two companies, which employ 30 staff in total.
This presence in Spain is part of Swiss Post’s strategy of further growth in overseas core markets. Swiss Post International, the Swiss Post division specialising in international shipments, is already present in eleven European countries, five Asian cities and in the USA. Founded in 1996, the Group company employs around 1,300 staff worldwide, making Swiss Post the global number three among national postal companies in the cross-border letter market after Deutsche Post DHL and La Poste. Swiss Post International has been active in United Kingdom, with its own Group companies for 13 years.
