Sticking without the licking
Sticking without the licking
From WESTERN MORNING NEWS, January 31st, 2001
THE Royal Mail has licked the problem of bad-tasting stamps – by introducing a new self adhesive range. The state-of-the-art stamps, which will be available in post offices from Monday, are pealed off from a plastic covered backing. The new stamps have already received the seal of approval from staff and pupils at Mount Wise Primary School. Headteacher Kate Whitehead, said: “We have up to a dozen letters to post every day, so we all think the new stamps are brilliant. “They will speed up preparing our mail and will be much more
pleasant than licking.” Royal Mail says self-adhesive stamps are ideal for people organising events, for keen letter writers and for small organisations and businesses. There is a choice of 12 self-sticking stamps, on both first and
second class varieties For small businesses and busy correspondents there is also a handy ‘z’- fold card of 100. The books cost Pounds 3.24 for 12 first class, Pounds 2.28 for 12 second class, Pounds 1.62 for six first class and Pounds 1.14 for six second class. The 100 ‘z’-fold first class stamps costs Pounds 27 and Pounds 19 for second class. Matthew Gibbs, Royal Mail stamp product manager, said: “These new self-adhesive stamps combine state-of-the-art stamp manufacturing technology and ease of use, with the traditional distinctive values of the British postage stamp. Our market research has shown that 93 per cent of the public preferred the idea of these stamps to the gummed variety. “This demonstrates how Royal Mail are introducing new products in
response to our customers.” LICKED: Mount Wise Primary School pupils Catherine Palmer and George Bryant, both eight, help promote Royal Mail’s new range of
