UPS creates Android app

UPS has created an application for the mobile market with the UPS Mobile™ App for Android. It not only ships and tracks packages but also finds the nearest UPS location.

The App is the latest in a suite of mobile applications UPS has developed for shipping decision-makers such as small business owners and on-the-go professionals like salespeople and repair people. The Android App joins other UPS Mobile applications for the iPhone and BlackBerry – all of which are also targeted to consignees who benefit from the ability to quickly track shipments.

“UPS Mobile is a great complement to the UPS brand because – just like our drivers – mobile technology is about efficiency, access and convenience,” said Jordan Colletta, vice president of customer technology marketing at UPS. “The new UPS Mobile App for Android extends our unsurpassed mobile accessibility and places UPS at the fingertips of our customers on the go.”

Developed for use on Android (version 1.6 and higher), the new UPS Mobile App doesn’t require log-in for tracking. But when logged in, the application shows a history of tracked shipments and automatically refreshes when the application is opened. UPS tracking numbers also can be nicknamed for quick reference.

Android users can access their My UPS Address Book and Preferences and create shipping labels, which can be e-mailed in a PDF file for printout. Once the label is printed, customers can use the application’s “find locations” feature to easily find a UPS drop-off location.
