Disappointment, disillusionment and a radical change of concept: Internet portal of Schweizerische Post.
Disappointment, disillusionment and a radical change of concept: these are
the results of an examination of the internet portal of Schweizerische Post carried out over several months. Three months ago post director Mr Ulrich Gygi announced that an examination of www.yellowworld.ch would take place. Last week the company declared:
‘The profit situation of the portal business remains below expectations and has not developed within the fixed time schedule’. The subsidiary Yellowworld AG is therefore making drastic cuts in its range, which previously included news, shopping and games in addition to postal services.
www.yellowworld.ch is now to become ‘the post group’s main portal for all post
customers’ and will act as a virtual post office, offering all postal services as well as the financial services of Postfinance; for business customers there will be specific trade solutions together with financial and logistics services.
Schweizerische Post intends to complete the restructuring by the end of the year. The daily ‘Berner Zeitung’ also reports that due to ‘discouraging earnings’ the post was only expecting returns of 100m francs instead of 150m. Planned investments therefore had to be lowered from 350m to 300m francs.
