The United Parcel Service subsidiary UPS Logistics Group (UPS LG) is taking
over 75% of the German company Uni-Data AG in Schwaig. Messrs Johann and Martin
Maier, who founded the business, remain in their positions on the board of management and continue to control 25% of the shares. The Berlin holding company Odewald & Compagnie KG, which acquired around 45% of Uni-Data’s shares two years ago, is selling all of its shares. Uni-Data AG, which started out as a carrier, now specialises in communications and computer technology and provides technicians with spare parts as part of its night express service, while also holding stocks and managing returns. The takeover means that the company, which is based in Schwaig near the Munich airport and has expanded throughout Europe over the last few years, will now be in a position to link up with a worldwide express and logistics network.
UPS LG aims to build a global network of logistics centres and strategically positioned warehouses, which would facilitate worldwide delivery of important spare parts and other high-tech products within a few hours. During the last 18 months UPS LG has already acquired seven firms belonging to the supply chain management and spare parts service segments. In conjunction with Uni-Data AG UPS LG now operates in over 60 countries. Uni-Data has over 1,800 employees and plans a further turnover increase of approx. 15% to over 200m euros during the current financial year (31.8).
