India: Paswan stresses on better postal services

THE Union Minister for Communications, Mr Ram
Vilas Paswan, has stressed the need for adequate training and
continuous watch over public grievances.
He said that the induction of new technology such as the
computer-based multi- purpose counter machines, VSAT network for
money order transmission through satellite, automated mail
processing systems and use of computers in other key areas of
operation are all intended to ensure improved services, efficiency
and greater customer satisfaction.
The Minister was inaugurating a public grievance cell and also
released the Citizens Charter of the Department of Posts (DoP).
He noted that the Citizens Charter reaffirms the commitment of the
department towards improving its services and making it more
efficient and responsive to the needs of the customers.
He noted that In order to provide all relevant information to the
customers at a single window, the DoP has opened 423 information
facilitation counters and has further decided to set up computerised
care centres at all district/divisional headquarters.
