Kosovan operator to privatise

The Kosovo government has launched the privatisation of Post and Telecom, known as PTK – announcing that the funds raised will be invested in infrastructure, reports TotalTel.com. “PTK will be privatised very soon to have more income for our huge economic priorities like finishing the Vermnica to Merdare highway,” prime minister Hashim Thaci said after his cabinet endorsed the plan.

The highway will run from Serbia across to the Albanian border and is seen as a vital road linking Kosovo to the rest of Europe. Construction began in April.

As Kosovo’s biggest public company, PTK is valued at around EUR 700m to EUR 800m.

The inter-ministerial commission, which is in charge of PTK’s privatisation, proposed selling 75% of its assets.

PTK provides mobile and fixed telephony, Internet and postal services for the territory of Kosovo. It has around 1m mobile phone customers.
