Japanese staff bid for full-time work

More than 34,000 Japan Post part-time employees have applied to become regular workers. The company said that it has been inundated with requests to sit the necessary examinations to gain full-time status.

Post&Parcel reported earlier this year that Japan Post said around 65,000 non-regular workers out of the 200,000 on its books would be given the chance to become full-time.

The applicants had to meet certain conditions, before submitting a request before the end of June.

Japan Post hope the move will stabilise employment in the group.

Written examinations and interviews will take place in August, with the transition taking place in the autumn.
