VP of Germany's regulatory authority: almost "no competition" on the German postal market

GERHARD HARMS, vice president of Germany’s regulatory authority said there was almost “no competition” on the German postal market. “Presently there is close to no competition taking place,” Harms said. He also expressed pessimism for the outlook of the postal services market: “The number of competitors exiting the market has increased in most recent weeks. This can clearly be connected with the lack of perspective for those competitors.” Harms also criticized the government’s decision to prolong the Deutsche Post’s postal monopoly until 2007. “From my point of view as a regulator such an extension of the postal monopoly is very difficult to justify.” (Financial Times Deutschland)
