SWITZERLAND: DPD IS AMBITIOUS

DPD Deutscher Paket Dienst GmbH & Co, in which French La Poste has a 85% holding, plans to merge the Swiss companies DPD Ost and DPD West into DPD Switzerland AG. The latter will be controlled by Geneva-based GeoPost Switzerland S.A. DPD Switzerland aims to invest around SFr 20mn in Switzerland in order to benefit from the lucrative parcel delivery business. The market share is to be boosted to 5% to 10% over the next three years, from the current 2%. The present turnover volume of DPD Deutscher Paket Dienst on the Swiss market is around SFr 100mn. The just under 200 staff transport around 40,000 parcels per day. The Swiss business is profitable. DPD Switzerland focuses exclusively on corporate customers. The firm has no plans to enter the private customer segment.
