UPS to add 50,000 staff for peak season

UPS will give a welcome boost to America’s unemployed by creating thousands of temporary positions for the holiday period. Up to 50,000 people will be hired by the company to help deal with the company’s ‘peak’ season.

The extra staff will help ease the growing workload throughout the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The company said this week that it plans to hire workers to fill positions such as package sorters, driver helpers and others, according to a spokeswoman.

Hiring begins later this month and continues until all the positions are filled.

UPS also confirmed that a “significant number” of temporary staff will be offered permanent positions from January.
