Stinnes span into Chinese ground

‘The new company operates a logistics center in Shanghai, located in the Waigaoquiao free trade zone. Operating from this location, Stinnes provides logistics services via its subsidiary Schenker, mainly for customers from the technology industry and for automotive suppliers. In the past, Stinnes had been present in China through representative offices.

Stinnes’ commitment in China is part of an expansion strategy pursued by the logistics group in East Asia. In a speech delivered to the German Business Association in Shanghai, Stinnes CEO Dr. Wulf H. Bernotat confirmed that Stinnes’ plans to consolidate its market positions in this region also include acquisitions.

“We see enormous growth opportunities in Asia, and we have therefore made firm plans for major investments in this region. In this context, we will also be looking out for suitable takeover targets. This year, our priorities are focused on transportation; in the year 2002, we will examine whether we should also enter the Asian market in the field of chemicals logistics.”

Furthermore Stinnes Group operates a logistics network in the Asian Pacific arena with over 80 locations in 19 countries. Last year, external sales in the Asia-Pacific region amounted to over Euro 460 million.’
