Sika enters partnership DHL Supply Chain

DHL Supply Chain has won a new contract with Sika Limited – manufacturer of speciality chemicals for construction and industry – to carry out warehouse and inventory management at the company’s UK distribution centre. The contract covers 50,000 orders per annum, based on 95,000 inbound and outbound pallets.

The partnership will span three years and create over 20 new jobs, with the potential for more as service lines develop.

Keith Gilbert, operations manager at Sika Limited, said: “DHL will provide us with the functional expertise to facilitate management of a high volume of picks, on exceptionally short lead times, being delivered through a variety of transport mediums.

“We require a variety of specialist freight services due to the diverse Sika product portfolio, and differing requirements of our customers. DHL’s added value solution sets will help us streamline our supply chain, and its flexibility, capabilities and proven expertise in inventory management convinced us they were the right partners for this project.”

In order to add value to Sika Limited’s supply chain, DHL will consolidate four warehouses into a single centre to provide storage at Dunstable, an optimal location, close to the Sika manufacturing facility.

A management team operating from the warehouse will act as a single point of contact for Sika Limited, helping to centralise planning and manage transport suppliers more flexibly.

The contract will deliver “continuous process improvement, increased operational efficiency and reduced cost”, said DHL.

Richard Laing, general manager integrated chemical logistics at DHL Supply Chain said: “At DHL we understand the requirements of Sika Limited and its customers through our sector experience. The corporate cultural fit between Sika and DHL will facilitate a successful partnership that has already started delivering benefits pre-implementation. What’s more, Sika will further benefit from significant savings through the supply chain
re-engineering process.”
