PostBus wins contract in Liechtenstein

Swiss Post’s PostBus has won a contract to provide services in Liechtenstein. Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt (LBA) has awarded the transport services for scheduled public transport and school bus services in the Principality of Liechtenstein to the Swiss company.

LBA awarded PostBus Switzerland Ltd the contract for all the scheduled services, comprising of 14 routes and an approximate annual 2.7m kilometres covered by regular service, for a duration of seven years.

The company has the option of extending this term by a further three years.

The total order volume amounts to around CHF 160m, Swiss Post said.

Furthermore, four of the five lots for school transport over five years were awarded to PostBus Switzerland Ltd which secured the business together with three transport companies from Liechtenstein.

The contract was publicly tendered in May. PostBus faced various competition from Switzerland and abroad. Operations are expected to commence in December 2011.

PostBus first won the bus network in the Principality of Liechtenstein in 2000 and has operated it since 2001. In addition to Liechtenstein, PostBus is also present in several locations in France.

A spokesman for Swiss Post told Post&Parcel: “We are very pleased to have won this contract. It shows that we can offer a combination of good quality services and good quality prices.”
