DP DHL to shut down Interlanden

Deutsche Post DHL will cease the operations of its Dutch unaddressed mail subsidiary Interlanden. Deutsche Post DHL said that Interlanden will close on 30 April 2011.

The decision follows a strategic review of the company’s activities, in which all possible future scenarios were assessed, a statement said.

As a result of the closure, 246 jobs will be lost. The staff were informed of the decision this week.

Interlanden currently distributes unaddressed mail from sites in Apeldoorn, Eindhoven and Zoetermeer.

Deutsche Post DHL said a social plan has been put in place to assist redundant staff to help find other work.

The company also noted that all obligations to customers and suppliers will be fulfilled according to contract.

The closure will have no effect on other parts of DHL in the Netherlands.

The business employs more than 7,000 people in the Dutch market, across DHL Express, DHL Freight, and DHL Global Forwarding.
